Dry Ice Temperature – How Cold is Dry Ice?
The temperature of dry ice is -79 degrees Celsius. Considerably colder than normal ice (about 3 times the cooling capacity compared to water ice). It looks like real ice, but in reality it is frozen CO2. The sublimation point of dry ice is around 195 Kelvin, which causes it to change directly from a solid to a gaseous form. A liquid intermediate phase is therefore absent in dry ice, also called smoke ice.
Safe handling of dry ice
Sometimes dry ice is combined with other agents and then a temperature of -100 degrees Celsius can be reached. You can't just grab it with your bare hands, this would result in blisters and even burns. That's why we package and deliver our products safely and offer means to use dry ice as well as possible.
The possibilities with dry ice
With a temperature of -79 degrees, dry ice is an ideal product for cooling various products during transport (for example vaccines or food), but it is also used for cleaning various surfaces, creating beautiful effects at events or when using various products in the catering industry.
Storing dry ice
Because dry ice is so cold, you can't store it for very long, so we pack dry ice in a box that is insulated for this application. It can also be stored in the freezer for a certain period of time.
