Dry ice for research

The LUMC uses dry ice in its laboratories every day for many different studies and projects, which is why orders are placed at Droogijs-shop.nl all week long. With the many deliveries, the Droogijs-shop.nl team started to wonder whether a more sustainable collaboration with the LUMC was possible. “Saving costs and working more sustainably are topics that I find very important in my work for the hospital, so I was happy to talk to Cor,” says Catharine.

Adjust planning

A joint investigation was started into the most requested delivery days of lab technicians. Subsequently, it was decided to only deliver to the LUMC on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but also to make smaller orders from 5 kilos possible. Catherine: “Fortunately, we can always contact the Droogijs-shop.nl team for an urgent order, but this has not happened after three months. The use of dry ice appears to be quite easy to plan.”

Save costs

Dry ice is transported in specially designed boxes, the correct recycling of which turned out to be a relatively high cost item for the LUMC. Cor: “We offered to take back the packaging that remained clean and intact. In this way, we are jointly doing something for a better environment.” This thinking along was seen and appreciated by Catharine: “Personally, I really enjoy working with people who have the same values ​​when it comes to matters such as sustainability, but are also transparent in their communication and can switch quickly. I find all this in the team of Droogijs-shop.nl.”
